Going on a vacation and staying at hotels can be quite exciting and stress-relieving. There’s just this cozy and heartwarming vibe that hotels give out, which is why a lot of travellers prefer to stay in one whenever they are far away from home.
However, there are a lot of hotel horror stories that guests and travellers encounter during their travels. We are not talking about the sinister experiences here, but instead, stories that might make your stomach turn — such as finding bedbugs on the bed, or even realizing that the bedsheet that you are sleeping on is actually used and haven’t been changed.
Below, we will discuss a couple of things that you should remember when renting a hotel. These tips will prevent you from taking those nasty bedbugs at home with you, so you can make sure that your queen size bed would not be infested with it.
Take a Good Look Around
The first thing that you should do is to take a good look around your room. Don’t just settle in by placing your bags on the bed or the floor, or even laying down on the bed without inspecting it.
Pull the sheets up and look at the sides and surfaces closely. You should also take a look at the seams of the mattress behind the headboard. Bedbugs love to sink into crevices and corners, which is why it is a must to check even the bottom of the mattress to make sure that there is nothing hiding beneath that soft piece of cushion.
Alert the Staff
If you’ve discovered bedbugs in the room and on the bed — no matter how many of it there is — you should always go ahead and alert the staff right away. Don’t panic or yell at the staff, as they are probably unaware of the issue and would like to resolve it ASAP.
You can ask them to clean the room immediately and transfer you to a different room. If you are renting an Airbnb room/unit, then call the customer service right away. They will most likely give you a refund or send someone out to clean the room or the house that you are staying in.
Keep your Luggage Protected
Like what we have said before, do not immediately place your luggage without checking your surroundings first. Even if you have and you are sure that there are no bedbugs around, you should still opt to place your bags on a hard surface such as a rack or a dresser. Bedbugs usually do not infest these areas, so your luggage is safe here.
It would also be wise to keep your clothes and stuff packed inside your bag, especially if you are just staying at the hotel for a day or two.
Bedbugs are pests that can me your skin itch all over when you get bitten by it, but it does not necessarily pose a health risk to you or to your family. However, these pests can be quite difficult to get rid of, which is why it would be wise to be safe and keep them out of your home as much as possible.
