What Does It Take to Be a Bridezilla?

Bridezilla

Each year, thousands of women are about to get married, and hundreds of them will transform into a bridezilla whether they like it or not. After all, wedding planning can be stressful. But what does it take to be one? How does stress affect your preparations in walking down the aisle?

How Stress Can Ruin Your Wedding Preps

Engaged women should seriously consider hiring a wedding planner in London at least six months to a year before they say I Do. After all, stress during preparations is no joke.

In a study commissioned by one of the premium hotels in the UK, more than half of the 2,000 survey participants said they found wedding planning stressful. While 86% of them said their wedding happened as planned, the majority of them had to spend five months ironing out the fine details, making sure they didn’t miss anything. At least 30% said they would have planned their day differently.

Stress is nothing but a natural response to something the mind and body perceive as a threat. In a lot of ways, it can be good. It motivates and inspires you, as well as challenges you to accomplish something.

On the downside, high levels of stress can affect not only your health but also your relationships in many ways. For example, in the same survey, about 26% admitted they argued with the people who tried to help them. Nearly half of them fought with their partners while 25% said they eventually lashed it out with their mother-in-law.

Stress can also:

Lead to skin breakouts – Stress and skin problems such as acne tend to go hand in hand for one reason: cortisol.

Cortisol is a hormone released by the adrenal glands and regulates different functions of the body. These include heart rate, blood pressure, and glucose and insulin levels. What many people don’t know is it can affect your skin as well.

It can tell your skin to produce body oil or sebum. When you’re under chronic or high levels of stress, the body creates vast amounts of cortisol and thus a lot of oil. When it combines with dirt and bacteria, and they all together plug the pores, then you have acne.

For brides, a skin breakout can be a cause of severe anxiety, which can make them more irritable and prone to lashing.

Poor cognition Cognition is the brain’s ability to process complex tasks and make sense of a lot of complicated pieces of information. It’s what governs memory, decision making, and organization, to name a few.

Many types of research already showed how stress can impact a person’s cognitive process. These include a poor ability to make effective decisions. When you’re in the middle of a wedding planning, this problem is a no-no. Even worse, since it affects your memory, you might even find some wedding details to be hazy later on.

No one can remove the stress out of wedding planning—in fact, it’s part and parcel of the process. What you need to do is to learn to control and reduce it as much as possible. Working with a wedding planner allows you to unload your worries and give them to someone who knows what to do.
